Deus Ex Machina

Old god. New machine.
The choice is still ours.

An early look at the full film, ahead of the streaming release.

BEHIND THE SONG

Who moves the hand?

In ancient theatre, a god could be lowered onto the stage to resolve an impossible story. Today, answers arrive through a screen. The song asks whether we have changed our search for something that will decide for us, or simply built a new machine to answer it.

AI can help us see patterns, create and find answers. But usefulness can also become dependence. The ropes, cables and screens reveal the machinery behind the miracle. The final choice, and the responsibility for it, stays with us.

“DEM from an old name” points back to Deus Ex Machina, the source of DEM in DEM LAWYA.

Lühidalt eesti keeles

Antiikteatris lasti jumal köiega lavale, et lahendada olukord, millest tegelased ise välja ei pääsenud. Nüüd ootame vastuseid ekraanilt. Lugu küsib, kas oleme muutunud või ehitanud lihtsalt uue masina, kellelt otsustamist oodata.

Tehisaru võib aidata luua ja vastuseid leida, kuid abist võib saada sõltuvus. Köied, kaablid ja ekraanid näitavad ime taga olevat mehhanismi. Otsus ja vastutus jäävad inimesele. Nime DEM algus tuleb sõnadest Deus Ex Machina.

THE WORDSRead the lyrics

Old gods came down on a rope
Painted sky
Little smoke
Story stuck
Nowhere to go
Drop a god
End the show
Deus ex machina

Man make trouble
Man build wall
Man lose answer
Heaven fall
Wheel start turning
Curtain split
God come down
And settle it
Everybody breathe again
Nobody ask
Who moved the hand
Nobody ask
Who wrote the end

Same old hunger
Different scene
Waiting for something
Outside the machine

Deus ex machina
Old god, new machine
Deus ex machina
Something in between
Not from the heavens
Out of the screen
Deus ex machina
Tell me what it mean

Now no rope
No painted sky
No thunder voice
From somewhere high
Cold glass glow
Middle of night
Ask one question
Ten replies
Write my words
Read my tone
Know the road
Before mi know
Find the pattern
Save me time
Know what I fear
Before I decide

Old god came down
New god comes through
Old god gave answers
This one knows you

Deus ex machina
Old god, new machine
Deus ex machina
Something in between
Not from the heavens
Out of the screen
Deus ex machina
Tell me what it mean

DEM from an old name
Lawya from the ground
Standing where the rules live
Listening for the sound
Machine bring the answer
Law still ask why
Code can draw tomorrow
Man must still decide

No worship
No fear
Keep the signal
Keep it clear
Use the fire
Hold the line
Machine can see
But choice is mine

Maybe god was never god
Maybe man just built the stage
Maybe every miracle
Is another kind of cage
Maybe power always comes
Dressed like something we require
First it came down from the heavens
Now it comes through the wire

Deus ex machina
Old god, new machine
Deus ex machina
Something in between
Not from the heavens
Out of the screen
Deus ex machina
Tell me what it mean

Deus ex machina
Old god
New machine
Deus ex machina
Something in between
Not from the heavens
Out of the screen
Deus ex machina
Choice is still with me

Old gods came down on a rope
New gods come through the wire
Maybe this time
We built the fire
